After a number of postponements by other schools ETC Year 10 & 11 travelled to Bishop Bell for the first and most difficult match. Despite Bishop Bell being in the County Final in both age groups, the ETC team put up a good fight in most matches. The majority of sets were lost, but by a fairly close margin. This represents a massive improvement from last year when the team were thrashed. Below are the results:

Year 10                            Match 1                    Match 2
1. Joe Marodza                9-11 6-11                10-12 7-11
2. Billy Alsop                     4-11 10-12              9-11 5-11
3. Matt Mulhern                1-11 7-11                6-11 8-11
4. JJ Flaherty                   10-12 12-14            7-11 5-11

Final Score: Bishop Bell 8 ETC 0

Year 11                            Match 1                    Match 2
1. Seb Dell                       6-11 5-11                5-11 2-11
2. Aaron Norwood            11-7 5-11 7-11        0-11 6-11
3. David Baptista             8-11 8-11                9-11 4-11
4. Jake Farley                 4-11 8-11                6-11 13-11 11-4

Final Score: Bishop Bell 7 ETC 1

Both myself and Bishop Bell’s teacher were very impressed with the attitude and substantial improvements shown by all players. Keep up the training and hopefully we will have some positive results on their way!

Mr. Moore.

CAVENDISH 8
ETC   1
CHLOE STAMP 1.
High spirits and team camaraderie were evident in this final under 14s fixture of the season.  ETC started well, defending strong with Ellie Bigsby, Lisa Izzard, Tanya Gregory and Vicky Davies knocking any threatening balls away to safety.  Midfielders Kez Trainer and Immy Robinson worked hard to get the ball forward, whilst Chloe Stamp made some strong runs in attack.  The first half was even between the two teams, with each scoring once; ETCs came through determination and a low hard drive from Chloe Stamp.
However the second half saw Cavendish go up a gear using key players to break in attack, that were clinical in finishing.
Well done all girls involved, good team spirit and commitment.
MOM:  CHLOE STAMP “Great positioning and good runs which led to her 1st league goal”.

ETC   1
BISHOP BELL 1
SHANTELLE OMAR 1.
The first half of this game saw ETC struggle in keeping possession, Bishop Bell made it hard for us to get the ball out of our half.  Bishop Bell looked the team more up for it, whilst ETC were chasing shadows.  Jaz Izzard and Charleigh Crotty made numerous last ditch tackles to keep BB off the score sheet, whilst Hannah Blundell worked extremely hard in trying to get the ball and get it forward for us.  A quiet performance from ETC, but the score at half time managed to stay 0-0.
ETC started the 2nd half with more passion and for the 1st 15 minutes put Bishop Bell under a lot of pressure, shots came from Lauren Hughes and Shantelle Omar but still the deadlock was not broke.
Our defence started to push up giving the girls more opportunity for a shot and it became harder for BB to break.  Finally with 10 minutes to go Shantelle Omar squeezed a shot away, lobbed the keeper to give ETC the lead.
With 10 minutes to go BB started to push, great defending kept them out and we looked all set for a 1-0 victory.  However, the last 2 minutes saw a BB player make a great run to slot the ball past Laura Carter in goal.  Final score 1 all, which based on performance on that day was a fair result.
MOM:  LAURA CARTER “without her in goal BB would have stormed into the lead in the 1st half, great performance” also special mentions must go to EMILY GILLAM, HANNAH BLUNDELL, JAZ IZZARD, CHARLEIGH CROTTY and SHANTELLE OMAR who worked their socks off for the full 90 minutes.

WILLINGDON 10
ETC   0
ETC struggled to keep possession of the ball whilst Willingdon showed experience and intelligence in their play.  ETC worked hard but could not compete with the 2 Brighton and Hove Albion players in the squad who were involved in every goal scored.
The girls did not give up and showed great determination and character.
MOM: EMILY CROUCH “great leadership skills”

RATTON 0
ETC  11
SHANTELLE OMAR 5, RACHEL GUNN 1, LAUREN HUGHES 1, DEXI TRAINER 1, CHARLEIGH CROTTY 2, JAZ IZZARD 1.
A strong performance against an inexperienced team.  ETC created many chances going forwards which consequently led to over half the girls getting on the score sheet.  Shantelle Omar started the goal marathon with a well struck shot from inside the penalty area, with Charleigh Crotty pushing up from defence and finishing off the 11 goal tally.  Jaz Izzard got the chance to move up the field showing off her play making skills in central midfield, assisting in many build ups
A some what complacent performance but good result!
MOM:  CHARLEIGH CROTTY “showed great composure in her attacking build up play and finishing”

Thursday 13th November: Year 9 B Team Football Tournament.

After months of training at the ‘ETC Wednesday evening Football Academy’ the squads were ready for their 6 a side tournament. Instructions were given to eat a high Carbohydrate meal the evening before the tournament to build energy levels and the canteen staff were to ensure the players were provided with a light salad at lunchtime.
There was an excited atmosphere in the mini bus as we arrived at Hailsham. The finance department had rejected the request for an over night stay in a hotel so the fear was that the long journey might have taken its toll on the players.
All the preparation paid off and despite the travel fatigue both teams played with style, enthusiasm and flare.
Highlights.
Captain Michael Vernava not only had the organisational skills to sort out player positions but also led by example on the pitch.
Sam James showed Gerrard like shooting ability pinging the ball goal bound at every opportunity.
Lewes Oliver displayed both strength and skill hitting the woodwork twice in one game.
Andy Pettiford controlled the midfield with great link up play and an eye for a cutting through ball.
Aaron Meech flicking the ball, Ronaldo like, to fellow team members.
Jordan Lower reading the game and dealing with danger approaching his defence.
We didn’t make through to the finals but played well against tough opposition. Pleasingly both teams showed positive team spirit and played with a strong sense of fair play. We won the fair play award for our sportsmanship, so congratulations and well done to both teams.
The good news was that we didn’t have to go back to the Hotel to pick up our bags so were home in time for The Simpsons!

Wednesday 12th November: STREET SURFING TASTER

On Wednesday 12th November several of our Year 7 and 8 PE groups and a Year 10 Media group were given an opportunity to have a go at the new sport of Street Surfing.
The groups worked in pairs with one riding the 2 wheeled skateboard whilst their partner held them up until they developed the balance to go solo. Amazingly after a very short period of time most were riding unaided and some were covering large distances and turning with ease.
The Year 10 girls were probably the quickest to master the skills, moving from extreme make up application to Street Surf Boarders in less than 40 minutes. The helmets did play havoc with their hair, which caused high stress levels for which I apologise.

Some of the Year 8s who showed natural talent were Patrick James, Sam Derrick, Holly Carter and Oliver Stoner.

The concentration, balance and teamwork required for success whilst learning this tricky sport was a joy to watch as everyone participating gave it their best shot. Well done all those who took part.

Thank you to Mr. Brennan and his media group for the fine display of photos of the day, on the school website

We are looking into a repeat day so that more students can benefit from the experience.
Mr. Ellis.

The year eight boys competed in a “six a side” football competition, which was held in Hailsham.
The boys worked hard in every match and tried to play as a team. We drew three matches and lost three.
The player of the tournament was Conner McCade.
