Wednesday 14th October: YEAR 7 Boys Football
ETC 0
Causeway 8
Report by Joe Alexander year 7 centre back:
On the 14
th
October 2009 E.T.C football team went to Causeway school to play a League game
and lost 8 – 0 it was a disaster but we had fun it was an eleven a side on a half size pitch, our
formation was 4-2-2 at half time the score was 4 -0 we thought how could it get any worse but it did 
the match was one hour long but we did not have enough time it was fun though.
The year 7 team left the changing rooms in a confident and expectant mood ahead of their first match
representing ETC, this soon changed, after 4 minutes they were 2-0 down and could have been a lot
worse without Zac making several fine saves. The team never really recovered from that start and
started to lose shape, although towards the end of the half Ashley Wilkinson had the first shot on
target. The match got a lot worse for ETC with the referee finally blowing the whistle at 8-0 to
Causeway, who played very well as a team.
MOM was awarded to Ashley Wilkinson for a fighting all round display.

Wednesday 3rd June: YEAR 9 GIRLS ROUNDERS

ETC 12½ Rounders
CAUSEWAY 9½ Rounders

The year 9s had their first Rounders match of the summer, at home to Causeway. ETC were focused and new exactly what each of their roles were. The match consisted of 2 innings, 18 good balls for each.

The girls made an extremely strong start, fielding first they put the pressure on Causeway by not allowing the away side to get any half Rounders; keeping their score low. ETC then stepped into
bat and set a high score with Susmita Tamang getting a Rounder from each of her goes.

With Causeway now on the chase during the second innings, ETC knew the pressure would be on!! A few lapses in concentration allowed Causeway to get a few easy Rounders, filling their team with more belief that they could win the game.

Once ETC had settled however they were back to their organised way. Immy Robinson was outstanding at back stop, with some efficient pick ups and throws. Kez Trainer made some exceptional catches out deep in the field, which made it hard for Causeway to continue in their quest to win the match.

ETC had fielded well and knew that if they went into bat and continued how they did in the first innings, the game would be theirs. Each player looked confident when in, again Susmita Tamang was flawless getting another two Rounders.

A fantastic performance by all!!
Well done girls, you deserved it!!

ETC Vs Thomas Peacocke (Rye)

On a bright, but very windy day, ETC travelled to Bexhill to play Thomas Peacocke. With several players unavailable, debuts were given to Kevin Ortega and Martyn Cleveland, as well as a change in formation to 4-4-2.

ETC started brightly and Reece Collymore played some good passes out wide to Dan Bazley, Aaron Saunders and through to Ortega, but the wind made it difficult to control the ball and many attacks failed without the final shot being taken.  After 10 minutes the breakthrough came, but it was Thomas Peacocke who scored when a through ball exposed ETC’s flat back four and their striker scored past Josh Coney.  It was soon 2-0 when a corner was not cleared.  ETC did not let their heads drop and a great ball by Lee Schooling released Ortega and he beat a defender before lobbing the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.  Some good defending was required by Matt Castle to keep the score at 2-1, but with 5 minutes to go in the first half, poor marking from an ETC goal kick led to Peacocke making it 3-1.  In the final minute of the half Coney was called into action and saved two good shots to keep ETC in with a chance at half time.

The players were reminded of some basic defending skills at half time along with Cleveland replacing Saunders.  It immediately paid dividends as Cleveland crossed for Ortega to score his second with a great header. Just two minutes later, ETC equalised when Schooling’s strike from 20 yards was deflected into the corner of the net.  ETC kept the pressure up, and Collymore saw a great volley hit the crossbar.  Halfway through the second half, ETC took the lead for the first time when another cross by Cleveland was turned in at the near post by Andrew Swansborough. 4-3 up!  This seemed to wake Peacocke up, and immediately ETC came under intense pressure.  However the backline of Tobias Ekroth-Smith, Callum Langford, Cane Stolton and Castle kept out the physically strong attackers.  They held on until 5 minutes before the end of the game when Peacocke equalised.  With extra time looming, Schooling made a great run through the middle and lobbed the keeper from 25 yards and into the back of the net.  Unfortunately this was ruled out by a linesman’s flag, and the game did indeed go to extra time.

In extra time, it seemed ETC had run out of energy and Peacocke struck once in the first period and twice in the second to make the score a flattering 7-4 after extra time to take home the trophy.

ETC should remain proud that they reached the Cup Final in their first year at ETC, and I look forward to more success next year.

Squad: Josh Coney, Tobias Ekroth-Smith, Callum Langford, Matt Castle, Cane Stolton, Aaron Saunders (Martyn Cleveland), Lee Schooling, Reece Collymore, Daniel Bazley, Andrew Swansborough, Kevin Ortega.
MOM: Too many to mention!

ETC 16 CLAVERHAM 13
ETC 13 CARDINAL NEWMAN 34

Our senior basketball squad won all of their South Downs Partnership league games in term 3 and
travelled to Hailsham for the finals in good form.
We played 2 games against the Hastings and Brighton league winners.
Claverham were a big side with a talented point guard. We missed vital free throws and lay ups
during the game; these would have made the victory much larger. In the dying seconds David
Baptista provided the assist for Bob Olusanya to drive to the hoop, make the lay up and get
fouled. Bob calmly added the extra point for a vital 3 point play. Claverham only had 2 seconds to
inbounds the ball and launch a “Hail Mary” shot, that was unsuccessful. We won by 3 points.
We then rested whilst the Claverham team lost to Cardinal Newman.
Newman looked strong and we knew
that we had to make our shots in
the “winner goes through” match.
Many of our year 10‟s were blooded
against a Newman team that had 3
very talented players who all play
for the Brighton Cougars outside of
school. A disastrous first 5 minutes
saw us fall 13 points down and we
never recovered. Norwood and
Tendai were introduced and played
well and hard, but again we missed
too many open shots and lay ups.
Cardinal Newman were the
strongest team on the afternoon
and we wish them well against
Angmering.
Some of our year 10s played against many of the best year 11s in the County. Ty Berry, Mike
Parsons, James Sib, Tanaka, Bob Olusanya will all be better players from this experience.
This was the final game for our year 11s, some of whom who have represented ETC for the full five
years here – Tendai, Norwood, Baptista, Dell, Tingley, Stevens Grant.
I would also like to publicly thank Aaron Norwood and Seb Dell for their support of Basketball at
ETC, they have helped out at numerous clubs!! Also Miss Abdalla would like to thank Cameron
Stevens-Grant for his commitment to training the girls‟ squad fully; he has shown great
responsibility and looks to have a bright future in coaching if he chooses.

WILLINGDON 10
ETC   38
SHANTELLE OMAR 16, HANNAH BLUNDELL 8, CHARLEIGH CROTTY 8, LOLA OLUSANYA 4, JAZ IZZARD 2
A slow start for ETC, although we were always in control and took an early lead; the girls still were yet to play to the high level that they are capable of.  Many ETC long range shots rebounded off the rim of the hoop or the backboard, and some sloppy defending allowed Willingdon to get onto the score sheet.
The second half saw ETC go out with a different game plan and attitude.  Playing to our strengths we now started to move the ball quicker and drive into the key for lay ups.  All girls were passing well, keeping possession and playing aggressively; making it impossible for Willingdon to settle into any rhythm.  The quality from Jaz Izzard, Lola Olusanya, Hannah Blundell, Charleigh Crotty and Shantelle Omar was so high and fantastic to watch. Outstanding second half performance!
MVP: SHANTELLE OMAR “Always in the right place at the right time and clinical in her finishing”

WILLINGDON 26
ETC   4
FABIANNA CAIRES 2, ABBIE CORKE 2
ETC struggled against a talented Willingdon team, the first half Willingdon were quick to stamp their authority on the game.  They were 1st to every ball and combined their passing well to keep possession.
ETC stepped their game up in the second half, battling well and working hard for each other.  Miranda Dell drove ETC forward, creating some good chances for Fabianna Caires and Abbie Corker to get some much needed baskets for us.  A much better performance in the 2nd half that saw us competing well with the home side.
MVP:  MIRANDA DELL: “Great work rate combined with some fantastic passing that led to basket assists”

DAVID BECKHAM ACADEMY Visit

We have recently attended several educational days at the David Beckham Academy, taking girls and boys from year 7-9. The days have been a great success which the pupils have thoroughly enjoyed. Not only have the pupils been able to use a National facility (that is fit for top premiership clubs such as Manchester United to train at); but also they have been given a preview into the roles/jobs available in the world of football. Such as scouts, nutritionists, physiotherapists and managers. The day taught a lot of interesting and exciting activities using practical methods. Following are some quotes from the pupils that attended: Alex Chakabva “I think that the DBA was really good and fun because of the variety of activities. I enjoyed the tournament and team building” Sam Derrick It was quality, the indoor pitches were great. I also learnt about fitness and not just playing. A brilliant day! Craig Dell I won Brazils player of the day, for my attitude and because I was a team player. I am proud of this medal. All of the photos from the trip will be available soon on the school website!!
