An impressive start to the year 7s first 3 v 3 tournament, an enthusiastic performance that showed the team has a lot of potential and a bright future.  The girls lost 2 and won 3, however the group was so open we managed to finish joint 1st with Bishop Bell.
Well done Fabi Caires, Emily Crouch, Lauren Morris and Miranda Dell.

SHANTELLE OMAR 18, HANNAH BLUNDELL 14, JESS GOUVEIA 10, JAZ IZZARD 4.
A stunning performance from the ETC team led them to their 4th consecutive victory in this tournament.  Jaz Izzard, Hannah Blundell, Jess Gouveia and Shantelle Omar easily breezed past their opponents; playing some beautiful basketball that was explosive and highly skilful.  The crunch match was again against Bishop Bell, always a tough competitive but enjoyable match.  Hannnah, Jess, Jaz and Shantelle within moments had put BB on the back foot with quick breaks and tight marking; Bishop Bell found it hard to find any rhythm.  ETC really took the game to them winning convincingly.
Overall, hardworking and skilful team play all round.  An enjoyable fixture!!

ETC   10
BISHOP BELL 34
SHANTELLE OMAR 8, HANNAH BLUNDELL 2
A fast paced end to end match, with a score that does not reflect the competition between the two teams.  Having beaten Bishop Bell last year ETC went into the game confident, however did not underestimate their opponents as they knew they would be their strongest by far.
Bishop Bell were quick to put pressure on, putting 8 points quickly on the score board within a few minutes.  We knew before the match that the team that won, would be the team that could consistently finish all of their lay ups.  ETC did create many lay up opportunities through Shantelle Omar but the ball for the majority of time did not fall for ETC.  Bishop Bell had a very tall girl that won any lose ball around the basket, making it impossible for Lola Olusanya and Jess Gouveia to win anything.  ETC missed 6 lay ups in the first half and came in 8-16 down, however this filled us with the confidence that we could break BB down.

The second half was the same, BB were extremely quick on the break.  Any missed shots were converted by their tall forward.  Most of our success came from long balls from Izzard and Crotty to Omar who caused a lot of panic in the BB defence.

ETC competed well but Bishop Bell proved too strong and were clinical in their finishing.

MVP:  SHANTELLE OMAR “Competitive, aggressive in attack, some great finishing and was a huge threat to Bishop Bells defence”

RATTON 2
ETC  38
HANNAH BLUNDELL 10, JESS GOUVEIA 10, CHARLEIGH CROTTY 8, JAZZ IZARD 8, SHANTELLE OMAR 2
A flying start to the basketball term for the year 10 ETC team, from tip off the girls dominated in all areas of the court demonstrating the high levels of individual skill that all the players posses.  Hannah Blundell drove forward on numerous occasions finishing with quality lay ups.   Charleigh Crotty showed she has not lost her accurate eye for the basket since last year, shooting from distance regularly.  Jess Gouveia as always showing awareness and forward thinking under the basket, rebounding well and finishing any missed shots.  Jaz Izzard worked hard and went on several powerful runs resulting in points for us.  Lola Olusanya demonstrated her athleticism around the court, rebounding and distributing effectively; and Shantelle Omar composed and skilful on the ball, assisting in many of the teams late baskets.
A comfortable performance by the team, there is still room for improvement if we want to be amongst the best in Eastbourne.
MVP:  JESS GOUVEIA “Joint top scorer, rebounded and distributed the ball well”

The second of our two games saw us up against a very strong, tall and experienced Bishop Bell team.  ETC worked hard and did not give up, finding most success in turning over the ball in defence then breaking fast up the court.  Bishop Bell overwhelmed ETC in the first few minutes, scoring many baskets and defending well.  ETC did manage to get onto the score board through sheer determination and drive, but could never fully get hold of the game.  Faster passing and tighter marking would have brought the game closer, but all involved competed well.
MVP:  IMMY ROBINSON “Fast in attack with some excellent lay ups”

ETC beat RATTON
ETC worked well as a team in their first of two games, beating Ratton convincingly.  Chloe Baker was strong in Defence, whilst Kez trainer, Immy Robinson and Heidi Jabbari drove forward with pace.  The girls stayed focused and committed throughout the game and did not ease off the pedal.  Kayla McCarthy set up many offensive plays and also showed off her ability to dribble past players to lay up.
Overall a comfortable performance, well done to all involved.  Kirsty Timms, Mel Albrow, Chloe Baker, Kez Trainer, Immy Robinson, Kayla McCarthy, Heidi Jabbari.
MVP:  KAYLA McCARTHY “Cool and composed when bringing the ball up for us, with some good finishing”.

FABI CAIRES 6, EMILY CROUCH 6, MIRANDA DELL 4, ABBIE CORKE 2, JADE ISTED 2, LAUREN HUNT 2, EMILY KNIGHT 2. ETC 6 BB 24 FABI CAIRES 4,

A great start to the ETC season, commitment and hard work was evident by all in both games. The girls really embraced the atmosphere and showed good team spirit. The first game was against Ratton, we started well with some good passing and moving. Fabi Caires and Emily Crouch were accurate in their shooting, both getting 6 points each for the team. ETC dominated the game throughout, and grew stronger with each minute. A positive first experience on court!! Well done!! MVP: FABIANNA CAIRES “great shooting and rebounding” The second game saw us up against a strong Bishop Bell side. ETC battled well but struggled to stay with BB on the attack. Stella Jones marked tightly making it difficult for BB to shoot, and Fabi Caires again on target netted 4 points for us. All girls worked extremely hard in this match and at times competed well with Bishop Bell. MVP: STELLA JONE “Fantastic marking”
