ETC 4½ WILLINGDON 2
ETC 3  BB 7

A disappointing turn out for ETC, with 3 key players missing we struggled to field a team for our triangular matches against Willingdon and our local rivals Bishop Bell.
With one fielder down we played Willingdon in our first match.  A confident start with some excellent bowling from Charleigh Crotty, some quick pick ups from Lauren Hughes as backstop and a great catch from Freya Coleman, saw us win comfortably 4½ rounders to 2.
The next game was against BB.  ETC were in bat 1st and managed to score 3 rounders against the tight BB field.  Unfortunately our batting let us down with only 3 or 4 players managing to hit the ball out into the spaces between the deep BB fielders.
Bishop Bell then come into bat and although ETC worked well together stopping many ½ rounders, BB managed to exploit the space unavoidably left by ETC having 1 less fielder.  Jasmine Izzard worked extremely hard in covering 2 deep fielding positions, pace and a great arm saw her stop many rounders.
However some off target throws and indecisive play from ETC saw BB storm home with 7 runs.
Well done to Tasha Guthrie, April Marshall, Lauren Hughes, Jaz Izzard, Charleigh Crotty, Jess Gouviea, Emily Gillam and Freya Coleman for their commitment, especially after their DT exam.

Tuesday 10th June:  YEAR 8 GIRLS ROUNDERS
GROUP STAGE
ETC beat WILLINGDON
RATTON beat ETC
4th/5th/6th PLAY-OFF
TIDEWAY beat ETC
LEWES beat ETC
The ETC girls gained a lot of experience from this tournament, their fielding improved with each game keeping the opposition scores low. Kez Trainer led the team when fielding, demonstrating some high quality catching and bowling skills.  Unfortunately we did not manage to score many Rounders when in bat, with only Nicola Curryer and Susmita Tamang connecting with the ball consistently; hitting out past the deep fielders.
Well done to all involved.

Wednesday 11th June:  YEAR 9 GIRLS ROUNDERS
GROUP STAGE
ETC beat CAVENDISH 4-2
BISHOP BELL beat ETC 2½ – 2
ETC beat SEAFORD 6-1
3rd/4th PLAY-OFF
ETC Beat HAILSHAM 4-2½

A very competitive tournament as expected, with such a high level of talent on display from 2 or 3 teams we knew as a squad this would be no walk over.  As reigning champions the ETC girls played with some self-assurance and confidently whizzed through the group stage, anticipating the final group showdown between us and Bishop Bell.
Both teams played well and were extremely tight in fielding, leaving no room for error.  After 18 balls ETC had scored 2 rounders, the game looked all set to be a 2 all draw until the 18th ball, when Bishop Bells last batter managed to get enough on the ball to reach 2 base giving them the winning half rounder.
ETC finished 2nd in their group stage, then played Hailsham in the Play-off for 3rd or 4th position.  ETC won convincingly against Hailsham with a very professional performance, finishing 3rd in the tournament out of 10 teams.
The whole squad which included Freya Coleman, Jasmine Izzard, Lola Olusanya, Tasha Guthrie, Lauren Hughes, Shantelle Omar and Emily Gillam performed exceptionally well.  With some great individual demonstrations of skill coming from Hannah Blundell, Charleigh Crotty and April Marshall.
This tournament really was a great representation of competitive female sport in schools.  Well done to all involved.

RATTON v ETC
Ratton beat Blundell 6-0
Ratton beat Marodza 6-0
Mulhern Beat Ratton 6-4
Olusanya beat Ratton 6-0
Ratton/Ratton beat Blundell/Olusanya 3-2
ETC were away to Ratton last week for their first Tennis match of the year.  Hannah Blundell the top seeded girl here at ETC took on Rattons top seed that also plays county level tennis.
“Hannah played exceptionally well, although some may have felt intimidated by their opponent; Hannah did not show any nerves and played some great shots.  The points were of a high standard, with Hannah forcing the Ratton number 1 into several mistakes”.
Jo Marodza seeded 1 took on the Ratton number 1, who also plays club and county level tennis.
“Marodza held his own in majority of the points; however the high standard serving and the shot selections proved too strong for Jo”
Blundell and Marodza were gracious in defeat recognising the talents of their opponents (power and accuracy); both gained great experience from the games and were positive at the end.
Mulhern took on the Ratton number 2 in a match that lasted an hour.  Both boys were determined and competitive which made the game highly interesting to watch.  This game went right to the wire, with Mulhern (who lost his serve), coming back from 2 games down to win the match 6-4.  Well done Matt!!
Bob Olusanya took on the Ratton number 3, in a match that lasted about 30 minutes.  Although Bobs opponent never caused him any problems, it was a game that allowed Olusanya to practice his match play and go for his shots with no pressure if he missed.  Bob stayed focused throughout beating his opponent 6 games to love.
Finally Olusanya and Blundell played a doubles game that came down to the wire, a close exciting game that saw the Ratton 1 and 2 take the game 3-2.
An enjoyable fixture, the way the pupils conducted themselves and represented ETC was outstanding.  Well done all involved!!
