Ten pupils at Eastbourne Technology College have received their Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership. The award makes up part of the BTEC First Diploma in Sport qualification that the students are currently working towards.
As part of the course, the students had to plan and teach groups of Primary school children in ETC’s feeder Primary schools of Parkland, Highfield and Oakwood. The activities they taught varied from football, basketball, tag rugby and tennis.
They also organised rounders and a kwik cricket tournament.
Course Leader Darren Moore said: “All of these students have shown a great deal of leadership potential in the sporting arena. They have displayed a tremendous enthusiasm to help all pupils from Year 1 up to Year 6, in a number of sports. All of the Primary school teachers have commented on how well the Sports Leaders have shown a very caring and responsible attitude at all times. I hope that all or most of these students take up the challenge of the Level 2 Award next year.”

RATTON 7
ETC 2
JADE ISTED 1, FABIANA CAIRES 1.
The year 7 girls had their first football game of the season. The first half saw Ratton start strong. They looked an experienced team that were a threat in almost every attack they created. Five minutes into the game and Ratton scored their 1st goal, despite great attempts to save from Emily Crouch.
Lauren Morris made some great passes and attacked well from wide positions, Sabrina Kingaby managed to whip a few crosses across the goal mouth but Rattons defence proved too strong for ETC. Ratton created attack after attack getting through ETCs defence quite easily, half time arrived and Ratton came in 6-0 up.
It took ETC some time to get into the game, but the girls never stopped working. ETC managed to get a free kick at the start of the 1st half, Jade Isted stepped up to take it and powered a superbly taken kick over the keepers head. Emily knights worked hard in defence alongside Stella Jones, clearing many Ratton attacks.
In the last few minutes Emily Crouch was brought out of goal and made a massive difference on the pitch, strong powerful runs forward took some pressure of ETC. The last minute of the game saw the ball deflect high off a Ratton player in defence; Fabianna Caires was the 1st to respond and volleyed the ball from 20 yards out over the keepers head. An amazing goal that showed great technique!
ETC need to be more disciplined in positions and confident in their teams’ ability, however the players worked extremely hard as a team and finished on a high. Well done!
MOM: EMILY CROUCH “Some fantastic saves, without her in goal the score would have been double”

HAILSHAM 1
ETC beat Hailsham in a match they dominated from the beginning. Good build up play, passing and movement created many opportunities for the team which were taken well. Goals coming from Alfie Dunne, Andrew Swansborough, Ryan Fern, along with 2 own goals from Jake Maynard meant ETC cruised to their second straight victory of the year.
MOM: REECE COLYMORE ”who inspired his fellow players by defending well, making good forward runs and taking players on to create the goal scoring opportunities”

WILLINGDON 4
H NEALEY 2, BRIDGER 1, HARRIS 1.
A very enjoyable game for our senior team. With an experienced starting eleven and bench we stormed into a 4-1 lead. Harry Nealey scored twice; Ryan Harris broke from defence and scored after Luke Bridger scored the opener with a good header.
Even with 20 minutes to go we looked comfortable, but conceded two late penalties from clumsy challenges to allow Willingdon back into the game.
We relaxed in the second half too much and need to win our final two games.
MOM: WILLIAM SKILTON “Very influential 1st half”

CAVENDISH 0
YASMINE SCOTT 3
The year 8 girls had a great match against Cavendish, all the players were organised and ready to play whilst Kayla McCarthy watched and cheered on from the sidelines.
Abbie Sanders and Becki Lawlor formed a great partnership at the back, intercepting any Cavendish attacks and driving the ball forward to our attacking players; giving our shooters the opportunity to score.
At the start of the game ETC looked a threat going forwards, Yasmine Scott produced our first goal within 5 minutes.
Holly Marshall defended well and worked extremely hard for the team throughout, which she has done in every game this year. Rhianna Hagger passed the ball accurately helping the team keep possession.
Half time came and Miss Abdalla made a tactical substitution, Lola Whittaker came on for Rhianna Hagger and Jordanna Quinnel became wing attack which gave us an extra option out wide. Jordanna moved into great space and passed the ball into the shooting ‘D’ successfully on many occasions. Within moments of the restart whistle Yasmine Scott had found space to shoot and was on target taking the score to 2-0 ETC.
In the last stages of the game Lola Whittaker out jumped her marker to rebound a wide shot back to Yasmine Scott. Yasmine composed herself and shot again with success, giving her a hatrick and bringing ETCs score to 3-0. Fantastic team performance!

CAVENDISH 9
An improved team performance led by Abbie Corke, better passing and communicating but still struggling to create goal scoring opportunities. The team has shown great commitment and we look forward to our last game of the season away to Ratton on Monday 20th.
MVP: ABBIE CORKE “Continually leads by example and is inspirational to her team mates”

ETC 3
ALSOP 2, MULHERN 1.
ETC year 10s won their three games in succession to move to the top of the ‘A’ league.
Billy Alsop scored twice and a Matt Mulherns screamer accounted for our goals. We would have scored double figures if it wasn’t for the outstanding Willingdon Goalkeeper.
The league winner will come down to a decider against Ratton.
MOM: STEPHEN MARYAN “very strong on the ball”

ETC 5
SHANTELLE OMAR 5
The year 10 netball team had a very strong game against Willingdon. The team worked well together in getting the ball into their shooting D. Emily Gillam and Shantelle Omar made some great interceptions to help ETC keep hold of the ball. Half time arrived and the score was 2-0 to ETC.
April Marshall made a great effort to get into spaces and attack the ball. Tasha Guthrie and Bekki French jumped well in defending any shots that Willingdon created.
Five minutes into the second half and Willingdon seemed to step it up a gear, bringing the score to 3 all. However this inspired ETC to regain control of the game putting more pressure onto Willingdon. Ruth Muhwaki was being tightly marked throughout but managed to help us by rebounding any Omar shots to keep possession. Isabella Teixeira making her debut appearance for ETC was quick to get into spaces and was sharp when passing the ball. The team worked exceptionally well together, good job.
MVP: SHANTELLE OMAR “Driving force in attack, demonstrated some quality individual skill.”
